#patient-zero
One of the most interesting freelance projects I worked on was the Patient Zero app. Patient Zero was built to help parents keep track of contagious diseases through location-based reporting and community interaction. I worked with a team of developers and also collaborated closely with the CEO.
The CEO brought me in to help create a medical application. He had children himself and had an idea of combining voluntary participation from concerned parents along with medical doctors to create an app that would track airborne and contagious illnesses in real time.
After meeting with the client and understanding the core concept of the application, we needed to create a few user personas that would accurately represent our core audience. Paper wireframes were created to quickly show the client our initial idea on what Patient Zero could be like. We discovered that our target market was parents whose spouse were primarily the income source, who's primarly responsibility was to spend time and care for their children. Our conclusion was that our first targeted areas of focus was place where parents and child were most likely to show up. Parks and shopping centers.
The application functions by alerting others of contagious hot spots and utilizes voluntary reporting of their children's sickness. One of the largest challenges was providing the upmost privacy and compliance to HIPAA laws. Because it has the ability to keep prescription and illness records and gives users the ability to schedule an appointment with their local physician, We had to focus alot of our efforts on keep the application secure. The app does a great job of creating a community-driven use base that relies on the actual usage of the app to provide and prove its value.
